Camera & Access Control Coverage Planner.

A room-by-room worksheet to count doors, choose camera types and size a system — before you talk to a vendor.

Vendors size the system for you — and the counts favour the vendor

  • Without your own door inventory, every proposal arrives with a different device count and none of them are comparable.
  • The wrong camera type per zone means faces at the door are unrecognisable and lot footage is unusable at night.
  • Cabling runs, PoE budget and UPS are discovered on install day and become change orders.

What is in the planner

Step 1 — Inventory your openings

List every door and gate: exterior, public-facing, high-value, traffic — and the recommended control for each.

Step 2 — Camera type per zone

Entrances, parking, open floor, corridors, cash/POS, perimeter — camera type, why, and typical count.

Step 3 — Sensors & alerts

Door contacts, motion, glass-break, panic, environmental and intercom checklist.

Step 4 — Size the system

Planning budget bands per controlled door, camera, sensor and cloud licence to reach a year-1 total.

Step 5 — Network & power check

PoE ports, cable distances, upload capacity, UPS and a 20% spare-port budget.

Rules of thumb

Exterior + public-facing = reader plus intercom. Interior high-value = reader with a second factor. And more.

How to use it

Inventory

Walk every door and gate and fill in the table.

Assign

Choose a camera type and count per zone.

Size

Multiply counts by the planning bands for a year-1 budget.

Spec

Take the counts to a Security Spec & Sourcing Package for a full equipment schedule and RFP.
